Shift Concussion Management Program provides an advanced approach to concussion awareness and management, guiding injured athletes to a safe return to both sport participation and daily life activities. It is well established that concussions tend to go underreported in youth sports, and this stems, in part, from a lack of knowledge of both the signs and symptoms of a concussion and the proper recognition and management of the injury.
Our program emphasizes a continuum of care from education and baseline testing to injury management and return-to-play.

Active Release Techniques is a patented, soft tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fascitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved with ART.
Graston Technique® is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. Scar tissue or adhesions prevent the smooth movement of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and surrounding tissues.
Kinesio Taping® is a specialized method for therapeutic and rehabilitative taping. Kinesio Tex Gold® is a specialized elastic, latex-free tape that takes minimal time to apply, is resilient (lasts up to 3-5 days), water resistant and suitable for patients of all ages. Kinesio Taping® is designed to reduce pain, reduce swelling, enhance performance, re-educate the neuromuscular system, prevent injury, and promote lymphatic flow.
Acupuncture is used to relieve neurogenic inflammation that inhibits muscle contraction and causes various types of pain. Using motor points (nerve enters the muscle) and acupuncture stimulation this nerve interference is decreased and increases ones ability to move and strength is restored.
Ultrasound and Interferential Stimulation/TENS: There are three primary benefits to ultrasound. The first is the speeding up of the healing process from the increase in blood flow in the treated area. The second is the decrease in pain from the reduction of swelling and edema. The third is the gentle massage of muscles tendons and/ or ligaments in the treated area because no strain is added and any scar tissue is softened.

Dr. Lindsay Buchan Chiropractor, Active Release Provider
Born and raised in Stittsville, Lindsay Buchan received her Doctorate of Chiropractic from New York Chiropractic College. In 2011, she graduated from The University of Ottawa with an Honours Bachelor of Science with specialization in Human Kinetics. She is certified in Active Release Technique (ART), a state of the art soft tissue technique used to treat acute and chronic injuries. Lindsay is a Certified Kinesio Tape Practitioner (CKTP) and also utilizes instrument-assisted soft tissue techniques to restore mobility and stability in her patients to get them out of pain, prevent future injury, and optimize performance.
Lindsay has been an active competitor and coach in equestrian sport, competing and training here in Ottawa and abroad. Following over a decade of coaching at Sunset Farms (her family’s farm) she still maintains her coaching certification with Equine Canada. Dealing with chronic low back pain while riding horses, Lindsay first began seeing a chiropractor (following a recommendation by her medical doctor). These aspects, along with an aspiration to help others, drove her to pursue a career in chiropractic.
Lindsay believes that a thorough and knowledgeable assessment is the first step to effectively and efficiently treat patients. By utilizing soft tissue treatments, joint mobilization, and rehabilitative concepts, she loves to work with her patients to keep them doing what they love. It is this philosophy that drives her to continue her education so that she can deliver the most effective care.
Dr. Jennafer Jarosz Chiropractor, International Certified Animal Chiropractor
"Treatments for a Rider, by a Rider" I have been involved with horses for over 20 years. I have competed in Open, A-level, Regional Level and National Level shows. I have worked in both training and breeding farms and boarding barns. Throughout the years, I have had my share of aches and pains, and injuries that come with the territory of such a demanding sport and workload. I will admit - I never was under the care of a chiropractor until after I sought one out for my horse, and was amazed at the results (which was also my motivation that made adjusting animals my career). We are involved in a sport, where we practice in all types of climates, we require balance and strength both in the upper and lower body to perform any type of discipline no matter if it is pleasure riding, jumping, dressage, saddle seat or gaming. After having the experience to study both humans and animals on a biomechanical level it was amazing for me, as a rider and athlete to put all these pieces together. We sometimes like to blame our horse for all the speed-bumps we might encounter during training or schooling. Sometimes we feel our horse might just not be capable of performing some specific move or just in general based on confirmation or behavior not want to - however the phase "We become ONE with our horse" is actually really true! Our horses sensory system is HUGE! They count on our balance as well as their own to perform many tasks. When we shift in the saddle, or if we are more dominant with one hand or one side of our body versus the other - your horse will respond and use this in consideration with their movements. Keeping your body in top physical shape, not just at the gym or by riding is important. We become used to what "feels right" however it might not be our best-self. We can get by with this for some time, but eventually the muscles that your using to help create that "right" feeling will overtime give out, and injury or distress will occur. The importance of musculoskeletal care (Chiropractic, Physical Therapy and Massage) is necessary with our sport.
